The Magic of a Hamfest

As this is being we are closing in on the 2026 edition of the Massillon ARC (MARC) Hamfest at MAPS. The vendor tables have sold out again this year and we are anticipating another full house.

The “magic” of a hamfest lies in the vibrant, in-person celebration of the amateur radio community, blending the thrill of treasure hunting for unique, vintage gear with the camaraderie of meeting with fellow enthusiasts (some whom you haven’t seen since last year!). It offers a tangible, high energy experience that features a flea market, technical demos, and face to face connections that can’t be replicated online or anywhere else.

Key elements of the "magic" include:

The Hunt and Discovery: Attendees can scour dealer tables and tailgates for rare vintage electronics, project parts, or bargain equipment, where the next item could be a unique, homebrew treasure.
Real-Life Connection: It’s a chance to meet people from online forums or over-the-air contacts in person, strengthening community ties.
Hands-On Learning: Many hamfests feature live, interactive presentations, and workshops, allowing attendees to see experimental hardware and learn directly from experts.
A "High-Tech" Social Club: It’s a gathering focused on celebrating the hobby and supporting fellow hams, often described as "the friendliest" places to connect with those who share a passion for radio technology.
Tangible Expertise: It allows for examining gear firsthand, discussing projects in detail, and getting hands-on with equipment, from modern transceivers to antique "boat anchors".

If you have an opportunity to visit a hamfest this year by all means go. It is an experience you will never forget!

Don't forget-- The Massillon ARC Hamfest at MAPS will be 11/1! Put it on your calendar!

These are the sponsors who make this great event possible!
